Born on September 9th, 1969, Vid. Kalavathy Avadhoot hails from a family of musicians. She is the daughter of the illustrious musician couple Sangeeta Kalaratna Vid. Bangalore K Venkatram and Gamakakala Kogile Vid. GR Jaya. Kalavathy is happily married to Sri Avadhoot, a connoisseur of music who has been encouraging her a great deal in shaping her music career.

After the initial training under her mother and Vid. Usha Char, Kalavathy had her intensive training under Ganakala Bhushana Vid. Anoor S Ramakrishna. She was indeed very fortunate to have learnt under Guru Sri Ramakrishna who moulded her to

be the artist she is now. She also learnt under Vidushi Seethalakshmi Venkateshan and is presently learning under Vid. PS Narayanaswamy of Chennai.

Kalavathy has toured all over India and performed at prominent venues. She has toured the USA several times and notably in 1999 for 'Nada Tarangini' and Amsterdam in 2005 for 'Carnatic Lab'. She has lent her voice for movies like 'Madhavacharya', 'Ramanujacharya', and 'Bhagavadgeeta' directed by GV Iyer and BV Karanth, with the Carnatic music doyen Dr. M Balamuralikrishna. In 2018, she successfully conducted 'Haridasa Keertana' workshops at the 'Haridasa Day' in Washington DC, and other states in USA. She performed exclusive Haridasa concerts in Austin and San Jose, USA. 

 

Endowed with a rich and mellifluous voice Kalavathy Avadhoot’s vocal stands out for the feel (bhava) she imparts to her music. An unhurried style of deliberating a raga with a flawless sruthi sense and rich manodharma; neat krithi rendition with a tradition bound paataanthara; effortless neraval and swaraprasthara with a sharp sense of laya, and above all meticulous planning make her concerts very fulfilling to the learned and connoisseurs alike.
